This positioner features a stainless steel (CF3M) enclosure that is flame and explosion-proof, making it suitable for use in hazardous areas. On customer demand, a local control panel can be added to the positioner. For example, the panel may include push buttons to open and close the valve and a switch to switch between local and remote control.

This positioner is typically used for proportional systems because it provides six digital outputs and four inputs, making it highly versatile. It is equipped with an advanced calibration process that, when combined with the regulator, ensures fast and reliable positioning of actuators. This results in optimal performance and precision for your system.

The positioner is compatible with all types of actuators, including hydraulic, pneumatic, or electro-hydraulic, as well as spring return, double-acting, and stepping actuators.

Design guide for using the AF model

The AF model is not designed to be wired directly. It must be connected to an Ex e or Ex d enclosure using certified bushings. See the guidance below for proper installation:

Connecting to an Ex e Enclosure

To connect an IDC24-AF Ex d (flameproof) enclosure to an Ex e (increased safety) enclosure:

  • Use certified components that are suitable for explosive environments.
  • Ensure all seals and connections preserve the integrity of each enclosure's protection type.

Connecting to an Ex d Enclosure

To connect an IDC24-AF Ex d (flameproof) enclosure to another Ex d enclosure:

  • Use certified components rated for explosive environments.
  • Install flameproof glands on both enclosures and ensure they are properly sealed to contain any internal explosion, preventing its transmission to the external environment.

User interface

Local display control is available for the IHP24 positioner, granting full access to configure the positioner and control the valve system. Furthermore, the IHP24 is equipped with various indicator LEDs that show the status of the system.

Graphical display and control buttons

The display is a four lined graphical display with backlight feature and adjustable contrast.

On the display you can see the status of the valve system, check position & pressure, start tests and perform diagnostics.

USB

The USB connection can be used to connect the IHP24 to a PC with ValConnect installed. ValConnect can be used to configure and control the IHP24 from the PC.

MTControl

When the IHP24 model is installed in a hazardous Area, opening the Exd enclosure is not allowed.
The MT Pen can operate the IHP24 through the enclosure and the MT Control function locks Automatically after operation to ensure unattended use.

The MTControl eliminates the need to open the units Ex D enclosure to operate the push buttons. The magnetic sensors placed below the push buttons, will detect magnetic signals from the MTControl pen provided by Val Controls.
